Our few days of Girls Camp started at the temple doing baptisms, followed by a delicious dinner at the Young Women's president's house. We talked about our theme: S.H.O.E. Steadfast, Hope, Obey, Endure, taken from the scripture for the year, 2 Nephi 31:20.
After loading everything the next morning, we went for a hike! It was relatively easy, with a nice long uphill stretch to take the wind out of our sails. We had to cut it short though, because it started pouring rain, with thunder and lightening to make it more exciting. The path was incredibly muddy and the grass was wet, so even with rain gear we all came out wet.
A quick picnic lunch in the vehicles, and we drove the rest of the way to camp. Thankfully the rain let up, for the most part, so we were able to get the tents up without too much trouble. And the remainder of camp was sunny and warm - even though we had a kitchen shelter to hide in and lots of rainy day games to play, just in case.
A beautiful full rainbow arch after the storm.
Drying all of our shoes and making campfire cones.
Planning and watching the For the Strength of Youth skits.
Our Priesthood leaders (the bishopric) performed a skit as well.
A little critter in a tree. Too bad I missed getting a picture of the moose we saw!
Making a lot of noise pounding leather bracelets.
Knit fabric and flip-flops!
Crafts, certification, and walks to the river. And spiritual moments too. I helped put together an Iron Rod activity, with blindfolds and marshmallow "fruit." This was followed by our testimony meeting.
As the camp adviser, my job was mostly just taking care of the food. Prepping, cooking, eating, cleaning. I did get help from the girls, but I was stuck at camp the entire time. I was grateful to finally make it down to the lake (a five minute walk away) after we packed up everything on the last day.
Only two nights away, but we lost so many people! Several got sick, and a few had a family reunion. It was a wonderful experience for those who stuck it out!
