With the baby on the way, we knew we'd have to move out of our apartment within the next year or so. I wasn't looking forward to climbing three flights of stairs at the end of my pregnancy or carrying up a baby and groceries. But we do love our apartment, the loft style, the kitchen layout (compared to any other apartment in the complex), the lack of neighbor noise, and all the storage. We were looking around for somewhere else to go, but were in no rush and weren't really looking forward to moving into another apartment.
But suddenly we're moving! Our landlady has been keeping us in her thoughts as any two bedroom apartments become available in the complex, and gave us a call yesterday to let us know about one. We went to check it out on Aaron's lunch break this afternoon. We took a quick look around and were told that while we get first dibs, there are other people interested, so we need to decide TODAY. So Aaron and I talked about it for all of 15 minutes before we decided that yes, this was what we needed for our family.
First floor apartment (so all of four stairs), right by the front door. That right there is the biggest plus. It's all on one floor, so no stairs within to worry about when Little Girl gets to crawling around. We don't even have to switch parking spots, but the landlady is giving us a covered stall anyway. Bonus! We are losing out on a bit of storage, which forces us to pare down on our stash of stuff (which we've been wanting to anyway), but now our guests get a bedroom instead of a storage room. And the biggest sadness is the kitchen. After having such an open layout, we're stuck with a little galley style, which we hate, but we have no other choice if we want to stay in the complex. So we stay, and we'll deal. Oh yes, and we get actual doors and windows! Currently we have a sky-light and sliding glass door for all our sunshine. And aside from closets, the only interior door is for the bathroom. With an actual bedroom door, Aaron will be able to play games with his friends a little later in the evening without disturbing me and the baby nearly so much. And friends can use the bathroom without walking through our bedroom!
It's still all sinking in, but I'm actually looking forward to it. It may only be the building next door, but it feels like we're moving towards phase two of our marriage.

Cupcake. Her nickname is CUPCAKE. Not Little Girl. It could be her internet code name too.
You're welcome.
