Provincials (part 1)

So this weekend is Aaron's ball provincials. Lucky for us they're in Calgary this year, so we don't have to worry about long drives, camping or hotels. Two games on Friday, two on Saturday. There are twelve teams divided into two groups - those groups play off against each other and the top two make it to the semi finals (with tie-breakers played early Sunday morning).

Friday morning: Royals vs. Snipers. Wow, what a game. We went through the line-up twice in the first inning, giving us 14 runs. They got three. We had to play a minimum of three innings and we slaughtered them with an astounding 30 runs to their 9. The whole park has been talking about it all weekend.

Friday evening: Royals vs. Selects. An incredibly intense game which came down to the wire. It even had that whole "they have two outs and the bases are loaded" situation. We won 13 to 12.

Saturday morning: Royals vs. X-men. Good game, something more in the middle of the previous two. It wasn't a walk-over, wasn't nearly so intense, but had its moments. Aaron pitched the first three innings and got 5 or 6 strike-outs. Final score 8 to 4 for the Royals.

Saturday afternoon: Royals vs. Alexis. Odd game. Started out good, getting 4 runs in the first inning and 3 more in the next. Suddenly the other team's pitcher stormed off the field pissed off (and we found out later a bit drunk) and the game was called because they only had 9 players. We obviously would have rather kept playing, but what could we do. The score for a forfeit is 7 to 0, which was the actual score anyway.

So that's 4-0 for the Royals! That means we're number one in our division and moving straight on to the semi-finals tomorrow morning. We're stoked. Aaron has been playing in this league for a number of years and has never won provincials. But this year may be the year.

So will the games be going on when we're there? We'll arrive on the 26th and then go to Cardston on the 30th - back to Calgary the 1st and off for home on the 2nd.

These games are over. The rest of the season will be going on though, so you'll have the chance to see him play.
